Chilling in Reno

We got a little snow; I would feel odd without it. I’m sitting for Lucy, part golden and part black lab, and Nikki, who rules the roost. Both are easy and fun to be with. Lucy likes to be by my side, always. They used a prong collar on her, but I am having good results using her regular nylon collar. She’s strong, so I can see that she might be hard to control, but she’s responding well to me.

The sunsets and sunrises have been pretty; I especially get good looks at the sunset over the golf course. They have plenty of windows to let in the light. The house is nice, and I used the jacuzzi this morning, which seemed to help. After shoveling so much snow in Draper, Utah, my hip has introduced me to a new pain level. Everything seems to be going as planned for the hip surgery in May. I am mostly looking forward to getting it done. 😉

Good Morning, Midway Utah!


It’s my last day in Midway before I head down the mountain to Salt Lake City. I had the most solitude and quiet here; it was sometimes lonely. So quiet. The cats were easy, and LingLing slept with me every night. Squirt seems to like changing positions fairly frequently, night and day. He has many spots to choose from, including a drawer left open for him. I will return to Midway on 3/29 to care for an energetic dog named Briar. I stopped by their house yesterday for a meet and greet; they are closer to town and have a nice place. No turkeys this morning… yet.

The Buck is not Real!

This guy is in the backyard, and since this house has so many windows, I have seen him peripherally frequently. I am used to it now, but for the first day and a half I had many moments of thinking he was real. It is nice having him keep watch out there.

The turkeys have collected outside the office sliders. I went out to put bird seed, and they took off but have not returned. I guess they wanted something else!

Squirt and LingLing are doing well. They have a good life. Access to the deck, three square meals a day, many places to relax, more cat toys than I’ve seen in a pet store, and come in contact with humans when they choose. LingLing is deaf, so I’ve learned to retrieve her when she calls. It’s her where the heck is everyone call.


While doing the dishes this morning, I was greeted by a fantastic sunrise. I went to a coffee shop in town and met that Irish dude who was hanging outside. He didn’t say much. Oh, and the coffee shop is also a chocolate shop with a variety that rivals Ghirardelli and Guittard. I visited with Shawn from Flower Bar Co., who used to be a Florabundance customer and a friend of Joost’s. We set a meeting time of 11 a.m. through messaging early in the today. She showed up at 11:23 a.m. and had a photo shoot, so she only had time for a hug and a selfie to send Joost. Moving on…

That’s the turkey in charge; it’s his flock. I told him to stay away in November; he seemed to understand. Squirt came to greet me before breakfast; he’s a good cat but suffers from kidney disease. So skinny! As I said though, he has a good life. Liz takes good care of her feline family.

It’s All About the Turkeys


This was a literal Turkey Trot, and they were heading down the driveway where I was staying. They know where the food is as Liz, the homeowner, feeds them. She has a huge bin with bird seed. Of course, I fed them today and will do so tomorrow.

I have been at the desk playing around with this blog and other things. As I sat here, loud booming noises were coming from upstairs. On the third, I thought I should investigate. It went up 52 degrees today, and the melting snow slid off the roof. I did not go out on deck.


I went to town twice today because I can’t figure out the complex espresso maker. I also had a fantastic roast beef panini from Hidden Peak Provisions. Next time you’re in Midway, I highly recommend visiting them.

Lindy and Squirt have been chill today. Lindy spent a couple of hours on the desk with me, and then both cats went out on the covered deck to watch the birds and catch some sun. I did nap, only to be woken up by a roof avalanche. lol

Recruit your pet as a study partner. Cats are usually more than happy to do this–in fact, you may have trouble keeping them off keyboards and books–and dogs will often serve as well. Few things are more relaxing than having a warm, furry creature next to you as you study.
